BASIC
RIGGING (RB)
Purpose
This course is designed for participants to gain the necessary
skills to plan, prepare & complete basic rigging work as prescribed
by the "National Occupational Health & Safety Certification Standards
for Uses & Operators of Industrial Equipment". [NOHSC
1006 (2001)]. On completion of this course, participants will be able
to prepare rigging equipment; erect structural steel; use a safety harness;
outline responsibilities and work safely at heights.
Pre requisite
Participants must be the holder of a certificate
of competency as a Dogman.
As rigging work requires the use of an elevated work platform
it is recommended that a current WorkSafe High Risk Licence in
EWP Operation is held.
Course Content
The Basic Rigging Training Plan is based on the Units of Competency within
the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF):
UEPOPS201A - Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Policy and
Procedures
UEPOPS212A - Perform Basic Rigging Work
WorkSafe Western Australia Certification
Legislation in the Workplace - OSH Acts and regulations; Mines
Safety Inspection Act and regulations; WorkSafe Code of Practice for Prevention
of Falls from Heights.
Plan Work - Crane type and capacity requirements; Site rules and
Contacts; Hazard Identification; Priorities; Emergency Procedures.
Fibre Rope - For knots; Bends & Hitches
Movement of Plant & Equipment - Use of chain blocks; chain pullers;
wire rope pullers; Knowledge of skids; skates; turnbuckles; purchases;
winches; block and tackle; Calculation of loads in a purchase & rope
storage; using appropriate formula.
Steel Erection - Columns; beams; braces; Trusses/Rafters; Structural
bolts; nuts & washers; Erection plan reading.
Material hoists cantilevered - Erection & Dismantling procedure inline
with manufacturer’s specifications; AS 1418.7.
Placement of Pre - cast concrete - Relevant procedures and techniques.
Safety Nets and Static Lines - AS 1891.2, B.S. 3913 & B.S.
8903; WorkSafe Code of Practice for Prevention of Falls from Heights.
Perimeter Safety Screens & Shutters - Erection & Dismantling;
Regs 117 (12) Procedures & Techniques; AS 4389 (Safety Mesh).
Practical Training - Erect steel frame building using prepared
plan; tools & equipment and demonstrate safe work at heights; Rig
Purchase System using F.S.W.R. & Tirfor, Rig Tackle Block & I.D.

Certification

Competent candidates will be issued with a Statement of Attainment (RB)
and a nationally recognized WorkSafe 60 day interim certificate. WorkSafe
will issue a Certificate of Competency within that 60 day period.
Duration
35 hours conducted over 5 days.
