BRIDGE
OR GANTRY CRANE (CB)
Purpose
This course is designed for participants to gain the necessary skills
to safely operate an overhead Bridge or Gantry Crane as described in the
National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work.
Bridge and Gantry cranes being either cab operated or remote operated.
On completion of the course participants will be able to perform pre-operational
checks; set-up and operate the crane competently; shut down and perform
various operations competently.
Pre requisite
There are no pre requisites for this course.
Course Content
The Bridge or Gantry Crane training plan is based on the Unit of Competencies
within the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF):
UEPOPS201A - Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Policy and
Procedures
UEPOPS230A - Operate Lifting and Load Shifting Equipment for
loads greater than ten tonnes
WorkSafe Western Australia Certification
Legislation in the Workplace - OSH Acts and regulations; Specific
regulations dealing with cranes and AS 2550 Pt. 1 and AS 1418.10 Pt. 10;
National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work
– Overhead Crane Competency Units.
Plan Work – Overhead crane type and requirements, job requirements,
alterations and additions to cranes, priorities, Workplace Rules and Procedures,
identifying hazards and hazard control measures, communication and emergency
procedures.
Overhead Crane, Bridge or Gantry Crane Operation - Pre-start/Pre-operation
checks, fault reporting, set-up, load weight estimation, AS 2550.10 -
Cranes Safe Use – Bridge or Gantry crane.
Certification
Australia
Competent candidates will be issued with a Statement of Attainment and
a nationally recognized WorkSafe 60 day interim licence. WorkSafe Western
Australia will issue a High Risk Licence (CB) within that 60 day period.
International
On successful completion of this course, candidates will be issued with
an Australian Skills Training Ltd Certificate of Competency in Bridge
or Gantry Crane operation.

Resources Required, On Site
AST conducts this course on site. Resources required for on site training
are:
• Safe/Maintained Overhead Bridge or Gantry Crane – 3 functions
or more.
• Various Slings – Chains, Synthetic, FSWR – Plate Clamps,
Spreader & lifting beams, Equalizing Beams and various shackles -
bow & dee.
• Various loads for Practical Exercises – round and square
loads
• Air-conditioned training room with white board comfortable for
8 trainees.
