Nationally Recognised Training logoMOBILE SLEWING CRANE UP TO 60T (C6) & MOBILE SLEWING CRANE UP TO 100 T (C1)

Note: The C6 & C1 are run concurrently but are considered separate courses.

Purpose
These courses are designed for participants to gain the necessary skills to safely operate a mobile slewing crane. Either the C6 Class which is up to and including 60 tonnes or the C1 Class which is up to and including 100 tonnes, as described in Schedule B of the "National Occupational Health & Safety Certification Standards for Uses and Operators of Industrial Equipment." [NOHSC 1006 (2001)]. On completion of the course participants will be able to perform pre-operational checks; set-up and operate the crane competently; shut down and dismantle and perform various operations competently.

Pre requisite
It is recommended that participants attending the C1 and C6 `Class’ training hold a current Dogging Certificate of Competency. The C1 training also requires participants to have evidence of at least 12 months experience in crane operation.

Course Content
The C6/C1 training plan is based on the Unit of Competencies within the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF):

UEPOPS201A - Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures
UEPOPS230A - Operate Lifting and Load Shifting Equipment for loads greater than ten tonnes
WorkSafe Western Australia Certification

Legislation in the Workplace - O.S.H. Acts and Regulations; Mines Safety Inspection Act and Regulations; specific regulations dealing with cranes and relevant Australian Standards; NOHSC 1006 (2001); codes of practice where applicable.
Plan Work - Crane type and its capacity; site requirements and rules; workplace hazards; priorities; emergency procedures.
Lifting Gear - Inspect all lifting gear to be used; current tags and W.L.L. markings clearly visible.
Slinging Practices - Safe use of all lifting gear; correct reeving practices; correct angle factors; determine correct capacity of lifting gear; double wrap to be used at all times.
Calculations of Loads - Calculate area; calculate volume; use other means of establishing load mass (ie. manufacturer).
Rigging Gear - Chain blocks; chain puller; plate clamp; shackles; spreader/lifting/equalizing beams.
Crane Operation - Pre-operational checks; log book; load chart and its use; areas of operation as per load chart; structural and stability areas;outrigger operation and packing; Australian Standards 2550 & 1418; signals as per Australian Standards; shut down and parking of crane.
Practical Training - Operate crane to manufacturers requirements; lift and move loads as directed by dogman/rigger; follow signals given by dogman/rigger; shut down and make crane safe; where appropriate, cranes with Pin Jib configuration make and break to be included; additional counterweights for various boom lengths to be included as part of make and break.
Shut Down - All lifting gear to be inspected; crane to be inspected and any problems entered into Log Book.

Certification
Darwin & Western Australia
Competent candidates will be issued with a Statement of Attainment (C6 and/or C1) and a Nationally recognized WorkSafe 60 day interim certificate. WorkSafe Western Australia will issue a Certificate of Competency within that 60 day period.

International
On successful completion of this course, candidates will be issued with an Australian Skills Training Ltd Certificate of Competency in Mobile Slewing Crane (60T or 100T) operation.

• Air-conditioned training room with white board comfortable for 8 trainees.
