This course is suitable for all persons who are required to enter confined space as defined by the Australian Standard AS2865:2009, for maintenance purposes, for cleaning, inspection or other reasons.

It is a legislated requirement, applicable to all persons who are required to enter a confined space to undertake confined space entry training.

The course provides candidates with the necessary knowledge and practical skills on how to meet their requirements under the OSH / WHS Regulations in relation to work being carried out in a confined space.

It is also suitable for those who have management or supervisory control of a confined space.

This course is nationally recognised within the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).

Course Information


MSAPMPER200C Work in accordance with an issued permit. This unit is delivered concurrently with MSAPMPER205C.

Course Delivery

This course is conducted via a mixture of classroom based theory and practical sessions to practice skills learnt. 

Course Content

The content of this course will give candidates the knowledge and understanding of the relevant OHS/WHS and environmental requirements, in particular those relating to various situations requiring work permits, with an ability to implement the requirements in a manner that is relevant to the job.

It covers the required skills and knowledge for working in confined spaces including: identifying confined spaces and the work requirements, work procedures and instructions including permits and permit systems; testing / monitoring hazardous atmospheres, accessing and working in confined spaces; and cleaning up & securing the work area in accordance with documented procedures.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is available however, it is highly recommended that the full training be undertaken.

Refresher Training

AS2865 requires re-training /re-assessment 'at appropriate intervals'. Industry regards re-assessment on a two to three year cycle as good practice. Therefore, employees are required to undertake refresher training at regular intervals in accordance with their employer’s policies.

Dress Standard

The minimum dress requirements are:

  • Steel capped boots
  • Preferably long sleeved shirts and long pants

Australian Skills Training will supply the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for specific courses such as hard hats, hi-viz vests etc. Participants are welcome to bring their own hard hat and other items of PPE if they have them.


Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be issued a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and, a plastic wallet card.

There is no direct link between this Unit and any licensing requirements.

Training Pathways
