RIGGING
- Intermediate & Advanced (RIA)
Note: Rigging Intermediate and Advanced are combined into
the one course.
Purpose
This course is designed for participants to gain the necessary skills
to plan, prepare and complete intermediate & advanced rigging work
as prescribed by the "National Occupational Health & Safety Certification
Standards for Uses & Operators of Industrial Equipment". [NOHSC
1006 (2001)]. On completion of this course participants will be able
to carry out dual lifts, erect a tilt-slab a suspended scaffold, demolish
structures, work safely at heights, break down cranes, rig a span rope,
set up a gin pole and perform basic and intermediate rigging tasks.
Pre requisite
Participants must hold a Rigging Basic (RB)
certificate of competency.
Course Content
The Intermediate/Advanced Rigging training plan is based on the Unit of
Competencies within the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF):
UEPOPS201A - Comply with Occupational Health and Safety
Policy and Procedures
UEPOPS213A - Perform Intermediate Rigging Work
UEPOPS302A - Perform Advanced Rigging Work
WorkSafe Western Australia Certification
Legislation in the Workplace - O.S.H. Acts and Regulations;
AS 2550.0 Sect 7 - 19; Mines Safety Inspection Act and Regulations; WorkSafe
Code of Practice for Prevention of Falls from Heights.
Plan Work - Crane type and capacity requirements; site rules and
contacts; hazard identification; priorities; emergency procedures.
Load Equalizing Gear - Spreader bars; equalizing beams; sheaves.
Rigging of Cranes, Conveyors, Dredges, Excavators - As per manufacturers
specifications; certification requirements.
Tilt-up Panels - As per WorkSafe Code of Practice & engineers
specifications; calculation of sling lengths.
All Hoists - As per manufacturers specifications & AS 1418.7;
relevance with AS 1576; personnel safety.
Demolitions - AS 2601 & specific class type I, II, III; hazardous
& non-hazardous.
Dual Lifts - Relevant AS 2550.1 Section 7.19; calculation of load
share and sling points.
Rigging of Gin Poles - Calculation of tension & distance according
to rigging guidelines & appropriate formula.
Rigging of Cable Ways - Calculation of tension in rope using appropriate
formula.
Guyed Derricks & Structures - Overview a relation to previous
calculations and information.
Prefabricated Hung/Suspended Scaffolds - Certification requirements;
knowledge of appropriate AS 1576; installation & dismantling; calculation
of counter weights & maximum rope tension; hoist W.L.L. & safety
factors.
Practical Training - Make a break lattice; boom section in line
with manufacturers specifications; dual crane lift plan & supervision
according to AS 2550.1 Section 7.19.
Certification
Darwin & Western Australia
Competent candidates will be issued with a Statement of Attainment (RI/RA)
and a nationally recognized WorkSafe 60 day interim certificate. WorkSafe
Western Australia will issue a Certificate of Competency within that 60
day period.
Duration
35 hours conducted over 5 days.
