SCAFFOLDING
- Basic (SB)
Purpose
This course is designed for participants to gain the necessary skills
to plan, prepare & complete basic scaffolding work as prescribed by
the "National Occupational Health and Safety Certification Standards
for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment." [NOHSC
1006 (2001)]. On completion of this course participants will be able
to inspect equipment; work with fibre ropes; construct and dismantle modular
scaffolds.
Pre requisite
There are no pre requisites for this course.
Course Content
The Basic Scaffolding training plan is based on the Unit of Competencies
within the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF):
UEPOPS201A - Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Policy and
Procedures
UEPOPS215A - Perform Basic Scaffolding
WorkSafe Western Australia Certification
Legislation in the Workplace - O.S.H. Acts and Regulations; Mines
Safety Inspection Act and Regulations; [NOHSC
1006 (2001)]; Relevant Australian Standards reflected in [NOHSC
1006 (2001)]; AS 4576 & AS1576 Pt 1-8; Codes of Practice.
Bends & Hitches - Bowline; clove hitch; timber hitch; rolling
hitch; use of gin wheels.
Plan Work - Site requirements and rules; site hazard identification;
emergency procedures; priorities; scaffold fit for the purpose.
Scaffold Components - Identify scaffold components and use; identify
damaged components.
Modular Systems - Identify individual modular systems, their advantages/disadvantages.
Tube and Coupler - Use to modify modular systems.
Ground Bearing Pressure - Live load; dead load.
Minimums and Maximums - Lift height bay width, length light/medium/heavy
duty scaffolds; bracing of scaffolds; tying of scaffolds.
Estimation of Material - Design scaffold/take off quantities; obtain
quantity for scaffold erection.
Practical Training - Erect modular scaffold; use tube and coupler
where necessary to modify; tag completed scaffold.
Dismantle Scaffold and Stow Gear - Dismantle scaffold; stow gear
correctly; tidy area.
Certification
Darwin & Western Australia
Competent candidates will be issued with a Statement of Attainment (SB)
and a nationally recognized WorkSafe 60 day interim certificate. WorkSafe
Western Australia will issue a Certificate of Competency within that 60
day period.
Duration
35 hours conducted over 4 to 5 days.

with access gear.
• Cordage (for bends & hitches)

• Practical training area
• Air-conditioned classroom with whiteboard comfortable for 8 trainees.
