SCAFFOLDING
- Intermediate (SI)
Purpose
This course is designed for participants to gain the necessary skills
to plan, prepare & complete intermediate scaffolding work as prescribed
by the "National Occupational Health and Safety Certification Standards
for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment." [NOHSC
1006 (2001)]. On completion of this course participants will be able
to select equipment and inspect; dismantle scaffolding; construct tube
and coupler type scaffolding; construct platforms and spurs and lash platforms.
Pre requisite
Participants must hold a Scaffolding
- Basic (SB) certificate of competency.
Course Content
The Intermediate Scaffolding training plan is based on the Unit of Competencies
within the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF):
UEPOPS201A - Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Policy and
Procedures
UEPOPS216A - Perform Intermediate Scaffolding
WorkSafe Western Australia Certification
Legislation in the Workplace - O.S.H. Acts and Regulations; Mines
Safety Inspection Act and Regulations; [NOHSC
1006 (2001)]; Relevant Australian Standards reflected in [NOHSC
1006 (2001)]; AS 4576 & AS1576 Pt 1-8; Codes of Practice.
Bends & Hitches - Bowline; clove hitch; timber hitch; rolling
hitch; use of gin wheels.
Plan Work - Site requirements and rules; site hazard identification;
emergency procedures; priorities; scaffold fit for the purpose.
Scaffold Components - Identify scaffold components and use; identify
damaged components.
Tube and Coupler Scaffolds - Independent tower; circular spurred;
birdcage; putlog.
Minimums and Maximums for Tube & Coupler - Lift height; bay
width, length light/medium/heavy duty scaffolds; bracing of scaffolds;
tying of scaffolds.
Estimation of Material - Design scaffold/take off quantities; obtain
quantity for scaffold erection.
Practical Training - Erect independent tube & coupler scaffold.
Dismantle Scaffold and Stow Gear - Dismantle scaffold; stow gear correctly;
tidy area.
Certification
Darwin & Western Australia
Competent candidates will be issued with a Statement of Attainment (SI)
and a nationally recognized WorkSafe 60 day interim certificate. WorkSafe
Western Australia will issue a Certificate of Competency within that 60
day period.
Duration
35 hours conducted over 5 days.

• Cordage (for bends & hitches)
